What the job involves

Repointing the brickwork

We rake out the old, crumbling mortar and repoint the stack with a fresh mix, so water stays out and the brickwork holds together for years to come.

Re-flashing the stack

The lead where the chimney meets the roof is a classic leak point. We strip out the failed flashing and fit new lead, dressed in properly so it sheds water.

New pots and cowls

Cracked pots and missing cowls let in rain and birds. We replace the pots and fit the right cowl to keep the weather out and stop downdraught.

Rendering the chimney

Where a stack is rendered and the render has blown or cracked, we hack it off and re-render it so it looks right and keeps water off the brick.

Taking a stack down

If a chimney is redundant and only causing problems, we take it down to roof level and make good over the top, leaving you a neat, watertight finish.

Tracking down the damp

We find where the water is actually getting in rather than just patch the obvious. A chimney fix often cures damp that has been blamed on everything else.

The tricky thing with a chimney is that the damage is out of sight, so the first thing you usually notice is the mess it leaves inside. A damp patch on the chimney breast, a tide mark on the bedroom ceiling, or a musty smell in a room with an old fireplace are all worth a proper look.
